Amazon Releases SuperKindle
Interesting but vague details were given in a press conference regarding the Kindle DX recently. For those who don’t know, the Kindle DX, which is the second model of the original Kindle, is an electronic device that can be used to download and read books on the go. This new Kindle DX has a display screen that is 2.5 times bigger than the original, a 9.7-inch display, 3.3 GB of storage, native PDF support, has the capability to be viewed in either portrait and landscape mode, and sells at $489.
For those who cannot afford the Kindle DX, several price reductions are being made through promotions. Three major newspapers, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Boston Globe will we offering the Kindle DX at a reduced rate to those who cannot have newspapers delivered to their homes. In return, recipients will be under contract to purchase long-term subscriptions to those newspapers. Unspecified colleges will also be distributing Kindle DX to students and making textbooks available for students to download.
While all this new information is exciting, no real details were given as to when this new model will be available, how much these reduced cost models would be, or which colleges are distributing Kindle DXs.
