A First for Publishing on Facebook

Due to the exponential growth of social media and its influence, it is quickly becoming unacceptable for an author, business, or brand to be absent on social media. That is why Morgan James has changed its approach on the Internet from information to conversation. After all, isn’t that what a book is, anyway… a conversation starter? A relationship builder? Sites like Facebook and Twitter are great ways to actually engage your audience. Since we believe in it, we are doing it!
Morgan James is the 1st publisher to have a custom dedicated URL for their Facebook public profile and to make a serious effort to interact with its fans. As The Entrepreneurial Publisher, we are interested in your ideas. That’s right, we want to know what you think we should publish or what we’ve published that you like!
Here’s how to begin:
Step 1: Go to our fan page, facebook.com/morganjames and become a fan!
Step 2: Tell us in 1 or 2 sentences why you are a fan and what you think we should publish more of!
That’s it! Your voice WILL BE HEARD!

An interesting article on major brands and social media from the LA Times. Feel free to share. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-twitter20-2009apr20,0,2701874.story
You are right. Not using social media today is the fastest way to failure for any brand, and it is unacceptable simply because it is the way of the world. To not accept that fact is to have your head in the sand! It is also free advertising, and stats show over 50% of ALL online communications is on social media sites. Sure, if you want to not use it, go ahead, but it will be a death sentence for your brand, and you will not be left standing in the end. If that is acceptable to you, then great. For the rest of us, it is not, so we will all be using social media to enhance our product as best we can.
“Unacceptable?” That’s a little harsh, don’t yout think? I publish blogs and am on LinkedIn. But, to tell anyone choosing not to participate is “unacceptable,” is supercilious on your part. Pardon my bluntness, but the word is something I use for my grandchildren when they are misbehaving and actually doing something “unacceptable” in our society.
Camryn,
My apologies for the perceived harshness. It should be clarified that any individual person is absolutely free to stay away from social media… I do not mean to state that everyone in the world should be represented on social media. HOWEVER, brands and organizations NOT on social media are taking the huge risk of not being able to hear what is being said about them in the marketplace and be able to join that conversation. I do believe that brands and organizations who stay away from social media, for the most part, are making a mistake. OF COURSE, there are exceptions! I apologize for not clarifying that part of my thought process. Thanks for your thoughtful and honest comment… please continue to let us know what you think! Obviously, we can trust you to share your mind!
